Hinweise

A spiny, climbing native of Mediterranean scrub, olive groves and hedges in the centre and south of Portugal. After the spring rains, from about February to April, it sends up thin, dark, slightly bitter spears: snap off only the tender top part and leave some shoots to feed the plant. It suits a dry, sunny hedge or the foot of an olive tree, and needs no watering once established; classic in scrambled eggs and migas.
