Notes

A native evergreen shrub, usually 1–3 m, with scented leaves and white summer flowers much visited by bees. It takes poor soil, drought and sea wind, as long as drainage is good. The blue-black berries ripen from late summer into winter and are used for myrtle liqueur (a tradition around the Serra da Arrábida); the leaves flavour lamb and game much like bay.
